All three of these characters grew up together in the same area but were all influenced by micro and macro level influences which altered their perception and where they reside on the line between conformity and deviance. By giving viewers an in-depth look at the struggles and the daily obstacles the 3 boys: Tre, Doughboy, and Ricky face, it gives viewers an even deeper look at the relationship between conformity and deviance (Singleton, 1991). Looking at the the lives of 3 adolescents who reside in the heavily gang influenced ghetto of Los Angeles, Boyz N the Hood by John Singleton does an amazing job in examining and portraying the reality of what it’s like for those who reside in this area.
